War Secretary Pete Hegseth will reportedly announce a massive overhaul to how America provides weapons to allies around the world, sources with knowledge of the matter told Politico on Wednesday.

Hegseth will reportedly announce that the office responsible for arms sales, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, will move from the policy wing of the Pentagon to the acquisition side, seven sources told Politico. The move appears to aim at bringing the War Department in line with President Donald Trump’s executive orders on streamlining the defense procurement process and weapons dispersals.

Hegseth will reportedly make his announcement on Nov. 7 in front of a gathering of defense industry executives, according to Politico. The Pentagon’s process to obtain and disperse weapons has been known to be notoriously slow and cumbersome.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Defense industry groups have reportedly pushed for a move like Hegseth’s plan, arguing that it will force acquisition officials to better prioritize what American allies actually need, according to Politico.

Dwindling U.S. weapons stockpiles have long been a concern of foreign policy and defense experts. The U.S. made over $800 billion of arms sales to foreign nations in fiscal year 2024, according to the State Department.

The policy side of the Pentagon is currently led by Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby. Colby reportedly irked many Trump administration officials and foreign allies due to what they saw as rogue decision-making, including his reported halting of air defense missile shipments to Ukraine in August.

Hegseth’s reported future meeting with defense industry titans follows his unusual gathering of top military leaders for a speech in Quantico, VA in September.
