While every day Americans are branded part of a “fringe cohort” for opposing COVID-19 vaccine requirements, Hollywood stars reportedly will not be required to provide proof of vaccination to attend their glitzy award ceremony.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Wednesday night that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will require attendees to simply acquire a negative PCR test or a negative rapid antigen test the day of the award ceremony.
The outlet noted, “The Academy, which requires its own employees to be vaccinated (with rare medical exemptions), declined to comment for this piece.”
Additionally, it added, “Some industry insiders have speculated that the Academy is being less stringent than it could be because more than a few high-profile industry figures — including at least one of last year’s acting winners and prominent members of the casts of multiple best picture nominees, as well as nominees in other categories — would otherwise be precluded from attending the Oscars.”

So if you are just an average worker in New York City, and are not vaccinated, you can’t go to the office or enter certain establishments. Or if you chose to join the U.S. Army to protect your country, too bad for you if you didn’t get vaccinated, you’re going to get discharged.
As for the healthcare workers who were cheered as heroes in the early days of the pandemic, many of those who did not get vaccinated got fired.
And heaven forbid you to try to protest vaccine mandates like the truckers in Canada. You might be branded as being part of an “insurrection.”
But if you are a “prominent” cast member of a film nominated for best picture, well, you can’t be missing from the stage. How would the world live without the stars there to lecture them about climate change or racism or following COVID-19 protocols?
Now, the data shows that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is safe and the best way to be protected against the virus. It may not stop you from contracting Covid, but if you do contract the virus after getting vaccinated, you are highly protected against serious illness or death.
However, the Academy’s decision not to require proof of vaccination is a stunning show of hypocrisy coming from the same class that gave us a video of Arnold Schwarzenegger telling Americans who were against mask wearing to “screw your freedom.”
Apparently, the “screw your freedom” line does not apply to famous people.
Hollywood’s hypocrisy is nothing new, and that’s probably part of the reason why the ratings for last year’s Oscars plummeted to their lowest ever in the show’s history. And as long as they keep lecturing Americans to live differently while holding themselves to a separate standard, they will just continue to be ignored.
