Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday that she has refrained from watching any news since she has departed former President Joe Biden’s administration.
Jean-Pierre said during an event hosted by the Harvard Kennedy School that she has “deprogrammed herself” by focusing on her 10-year-old daughter and her “self care.” The former press secretary said she has refused to turn on the news since President Donald Trump entered his second term on Jan. 20.
“The last time I watched the news was [on] January 20 when I was at the White House. I have not watched the news,” Jean-Pierre said. “I have really tried to focus on self care, I’ve really tried to focus on my daughter, I have a 10-year-old. I have done, I think the best way to say this is I have deprogrammed myself so that I can be a civilian again. I used to wake up at 4:30 in the morning, like that was my schedule everyday for 4 years and I thought that when I stepped away from the lectern, the podium, that I would have this adrenaline … but I have not missed it at all.”
Jean-Pierre said even though she does not miss her position, she would “easily” do it again. The former press secretary has not announced any new job positions or any future endeavors since leaving the White House, though conservative media experts predicted that Jean-Pierre would sign a contract with a legacy media network following her departure.
Jen Psaki, who preceded Jean-Pierre’s press secretary role, jumped ship to MSNBC in 2022 where she hosts her primetime and weekend program, “Inside with Jen Psaki.”
During her time at the podium, Jean-Pierre accused Trump and Republicans of being “extreme” and threats to democracy. She confirmed that the official position of the White House is that Trump is a “fascist” in response to Trump’s longest-running chief of staff John Kelly saying the then-Republican nominee “met the definition of a fascist.”
In 2022, she doubled down on Biden’s claims that Republicans are “semi-fascists” because the party was allegedly stripping Americans of their voting rights and “taking away [Americans’] freedoms.”
Jean-Pierre’s most notable moments from the podium were her heated spats with Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy, who asked tough questions that often challenged the Biden administration’s stances.
