Vice President J.D. Vance condemned establishment Republicans on Monday for appearing to care more about supporting foreign countries over addressing the needs of Americans.

Many establishment Republicans, including South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, have strongly opposed President Donald Trump’s 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine, claiming it would hurt the region. Vance shamed the establishment for their “level of passion” for Ukraine over addressing affordability and the illegal immigration crisis, as well as crime.

“After four years of house prices doubling (and in some areas, tripling) many young people feel priced out of the American Dream of homeownership,” Vance began. “A welfare fraud scandal in Minnesota reveals that large numbers of new arrivals aren’t assimilating and are funneling our tax dollars to literal terrorist groups. An innocent woman was set on fire in Chicago as the mayor resists federal law enforcement resources to bring peace to one of our great cities. The Obamacare insurance system is buckling under its own weight. And the country is $38 trillion in debt.”

The vice president then accused many of the “beltway Republicans” of being angry with the administration over their efforts to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Should the GOP prioritize domestic issues over foreign conflicts like the Ukraine war?

“But you know what really fires up the beltway GOP? Not any of the above. Instead, the political class is really angry that the Trump administration may finally bring a four year conflict in Eastern Europe to a close … But the level of passion over this one issue when your own country has serious problems is bonkers. It disgusts me. Show some passion for your own country,” Vance continued.

Trump stated on Monday that “something good” could be on the horizon in the Ukraine peace talk deal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been presented with a 28-point plan put forth by the Trump administration that could bring an end to the war.

Some Republicans have publicly advised Ukraine to reject the plan put forth by Trump, including Texas Rep. Michael McCaul, who said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that Zelenskyy should not sign onto the deal unless more “ironclad” security guarantees are agreed upon. Along with Graham and McConnell, Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi also claimed the deal would be detrimental for Ukraine.

“This so-called ‘peace plan’ has real problems, and I am highly skeptical it will achieve peace. Ukraine should not be forced to give up its lands to one of the world’s most flagrant war criminals in Vladimir Putin. The size and disposition of Ukraine’s armed forces is a sovereign choice for its government and people. And any assurances provided to Putin should not reward his malign behavior or undermine the security of the United States or allies,” Wicker said.

While many Republicans are raging about the peace deal, Vance pointed to the Somalian population in Minnesota who funneled state welfare money to the Islamic terrorist organization Al-Shabaab. He also mentioned the assault on Bethany MaGee, a 26-year-old train rider in Chicago who was set on fire by Lawrence Reed, who had 72 prior arrests.
