Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a life-long Republican, is explaining why he chose to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
Kasich acknowledged the division among Americans is dangerous and believes Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden can unite the nation.
“I believe Joe Biden has the kind of temperament to bring people to the table. He’s not a ‘my way or the highway’ kind of guy,” Kasich said during his appearance on “The View.”
He continued, “I don’t agree with him on everything, but the matter is, let’s get people together, sit around a table, and figure out some of our big problems.”

Kasich stressed the division is “just not acceptable in our country.”
He claimed the Republican party has always been his “vehicle” and not his “master.”
Kasich received criticism from President Donald Trump ahead of his speech at the Democratic National Convention.
“He was a loser as a Republican, and he’ll be a loser as a Democrat. Major loser as a Republican. I guess you can quote me on that. John was a loser as a Republican. Never even came close. And as a Democrat he’ll be an even greater loser,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One.
He added, “People don’t like him. People don’t trust him. His health care in Ohio was a disaster. He hasn’t done too well with Trump. He’s been easy pickings.”
During his speech on the first night of the convention on Aug. 17, Kasich told Americans his political affiliation does not come before his allegiance to the nation.
“I’m a lifelong Republican, but that attachment holds second place to my responsibility to my country,” Kasich said.
He added, “That’s why I’ve chosen to appear at this convention. In normal times, something like this would probably never happen. But these are not normal times.”
