A rant about the Founding Fathers from former MSNBC host Joy Reid resurfaced on social media Sunday, accusing them of genocide against “indigenous people.”
MSNBC fired Reid in February as part of an effort to retool its lineup, shortly after Comcast announced it was spinning off MSNBC, CNBC, USA, E!, Oxygen, SyFy and other news and entertainment channels after MSNBC ratings fell by over fifty percent following the defeat of Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. MSNBC rebranded as MSNOW in November.
During her rant, Reid claimed the Founding Fathers had a sense of “entitlement” and appeared to side with King George III over the American Revolution.

“So that you know, this nation was founded by killers who slaughtered 90 percent of the indigenous people,” Reid claimed. “Leeches who glommed off of the indigenous who taught them how to survive in the wilderness and then murdered them… and took all their land. And you talk about entitlement, they felt entitled to own other people and they didn’t even want to pay taxes on it, so they decided to have a whole war with Britain.”
Reid had a history of racially inflammatory comments directed towards conservatives on her MSNBC show. On Nov. 5, 2024, she attacked “white women” for not backing Harris.
“In the end, if they didn’t make their numbers and essentially exceed the numbers that Joe Biden had in the suburbs, I think we have to be blunt about why. Black voters came through for Kamala Harris, white women voters did not,” Reid said during MSNBC’s coverage of the 2024 presidential election.
Reid also ranted against President Donald Trump during a live stream on her Substack, claiming he “is the physical embodiment of all of America’s sins.”
Reid also had Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota on her show, with Omar claiming that Somalis involved in fraud schemes that took at least $1 billion in taxpayer funds from Minnesota welfare programs were not leaving the United States.
Reid also allowed former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams of Georgia to label Vice President J.D. Vance a “DEI graduate” in January.
Reid drew low primetime ratings for the network, garnering 922,000 viewers on Feb. 19, 2025, compared to 973,000 for fellow MSNBC host Chris Hayes, figures well below those posted by hosts Lawrence O’Donnell and Rachel Maddow.
