Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, has advice for Democrats if President Joe Biden does not decide to run again in 2024.
Politico reported that Emhoff told Democrats the party “must rally” around his wife if Biden does not run.
According to the outlet, the talk coming from Emhoff “causes eye-rolling in the West Wing, where officials believe Harris is on stronger footing now than she was in her first year but remain skeptical about her viability in 2024.”
One Democrat told Politico, “The next question we’ll get after saying we don’t want Biden is: ‘Do you want Kamala?'”
Biden previously indicated he plans to run for reelection.
Still, during an interview on “60 Minutes” in September, Biden explained that “it remains to be seen” whether it was a “firm decision” to run again.
The Washington Post noted the outlet has reported Biden and the first lady have been holding meetings with advisers since September to “prepare for a potential reelection campaign.”
The president will turn 80 years old this month.
Biden commented on his age during a conversation with radio host Willie Moore Jr. that aired Monday.
“What would 80-year-old Joe tell 50-year-old Joe in this moment?” Moore Jr. asked.
The president replied, “That I’m still 50 — that’s the first thing I’d tell him. You think I’m kidding. I’m not kidding. That’s number one.”
He added, “Number two, I can’t even say that number, 80, you know. But I’m serious, I no more feel that than I can get out from behind this desk and fly.”
USA Today pointed out, throughout the midterm campaigns, some Democrats have come out and publicly questioned whether Biden should run for reelection.
Some skeptics pointed to Biden’s age while others cited different political issues.
