Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) says the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board is a “dumb idea.”
During an appearance on Fox News Wednesday, Kennedy said, “The Biden administration needs to stop being a chump.”
“I mean, whoever talked them into establishing a ‘Ministry of Truth’? I mean think about it, the government’s going to tell us what’s true or not. The government’s going to tell us what we can believe and what we can’t. What could possibly go wrong?” he continued.
Kennedy then turned his attention to Nina Jankowicz, the head of the board, as he said, “I’m sure that Jesus loves her, but everybody else on Capitol Hill thinks she’s bizarre.”
He continued, “She will devour the real truth like it was a light snack. What’s true in her opinion is what she believes, and everybody else is a moron because she’s one of the smartest people on the planet — in her opinion, just ask her.”
“We don’t need a ‘Ministry of Truth.’ It was just a dumb idea. Sometimes stupidity is painful,” he added.

The new Disinformation Governance Board has been equated to the “Ministry of Truth” in George Orwell’s novel 1984.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told CNN earlier this month, “It works to ensure that the way in which we address threats, the connectivity between threats and acts of violence, are addressed without infringing on free speech. Protecting civil rights and civil liberties, the right of privacy.”
“The board does not have any operational authority or capability,” he explained. “What it will do is gather together best practices in addressing the threat of disinformation from foreign state adversaries, from the cartels, and disseminate those best practices to the operators that have been addressing this threat for years.
Conservatives have expressed dismay at resurfaced TikTok videos from Jankowicz.
In one video, Jankowicz sings about disinformation to the tune of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from “Mary Poppins.”
“Information laundering is really quite ferocious. It’s when a huckster takes some lies and makes them sound precocious,” the video starts off. “By saying them in Congress or a mainstream outlet. So disinformation’s origins are slightly less atrocious.”
Jankowicz continued, “It’s how you hide a little, hide a little lie.”

“When Rudy Giuliani shared bad intel from Ukraine. Or when TikTok influencers say COVID can’t cause pain. They’re laundering disinfo and we really should take note and not support their lies with our wallet, voice or vote,” she added.
Mayorkas previously defended Jankowicz, calling her “eminently qualified” and “a renowned expert in the field of disinformation.”
