Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is sharing his thoughts about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with regard to COVID-19 relief.

“With respect, there are times, particularly recently, when I think Speaker Pelosi is one of those people who tried Tide pods,” Kennedy said on Fox News. “I want you to think about what she proposed today, this is what the speaker is threatening to do.”

He continued to say Pelosi “is threatening to keep the House Democrats in session and prevent them from going home and running for reelection unless the Senate Republicans agree to the speaker’s $3.4 trillion coronavirus bill.”

“On the one hand we can vote for Pelosi’s $3.4 trillion bill or we can agree to allow her to put the House Democratic majority into jeopardy. That’s just bone-deep down to the marrow foolish.”

On Tuesday, Pelosi committed to keeping the House of Representatives in session until a coronavirus stimulus deal can be reached.

“We are committed to staying here until we have an agreement — an agreement that meets the needs of the American people,” she said during a CNBC interview.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) clarified that members can go back to their districts during that time but, if a deal is reached, will be given a 24 hours notice to return to Washington, D.C., for votes. Democratic leaders would stay in D.C. to continue to negotiate on COVID-19 relief.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House brought forth a $2 trillion proposal on Tuesday for COVID-19 economic aid, but it was rejected.

Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.) told CNN in response, “You saw all the reasons why people hate politics. Because they are rejecting a bold bipartisan measure outright and insinuating things are not in there when they actually are and just continuing to kick the can down the road over and over and over again. … It’s deeply frustrating.”
