Kraft Recalls More Than 80,000 American Cheese Slices Over Potential ‘Choking Hazard’

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 08: Packets of Kraft cheese are seen on display at Ideal Food Basket on November 08, 2021 in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn borough in New York City. Snack makers Kraft Heinz and Mondelez announced that they will be raising prices for retail customers on several of their products, including Kraft Mac & Cheese, Jell-O, Bagel Bites, Cool Whip, Toblerone, Sour Patch Kids and other items starting next year. They also said that if the retail customers do not pay, the price hike will be passed on to the public. Food and consumer product manufacturers are dealing with higher costs due to labor, raw materials, transportation and other expenses like most U.S. companies, with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forcing a high demand for snacks due to consumers spending more time at home. Kraft Heinz issued a recall for more than 80,000 cases of American cheese slices over concerns of a potential “choking hazard.”

The company, which is co-headquartered out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Chicago, Illinois explained in a press release on Tuesday evening that roughly 83,800 cases of “individually-wrapped” Kraft American cheese slices were being recalled over a “temporary issue” with one of the wrapping machines.

“Kraft Heinz is announcing a voluntary recall of approximately 83,800 cases of individually-wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices that were shipped to a limited number of customers,” the company wrote.

🚨RECALL ALERT: Check your fridge!

Kraft Heinz is recalling 83,000+ cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices because part of the wrapper could stick to the slice and become a choking hazard.

Due to an issue with one of the wrapping machines, a “thin strip” of the individual film may possibly remain on the slice of cheese, leading to a potential “gagging or choking hazard,” the company warned.

The company began the voluntary recall after receiving several complaints. In six instances, people ended up choking or gagging as a result of the issue.

Kraft Heinz has since fixed the issue with the wrapping machine and inspected other machines as well.
