The cause of death of late rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, has been revealed.
According to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, Lisa Marie Presley died from the afteraffect “of small bowel obstruction,” per NBC News.
An autopsy report obtained by the news outlet stated the obstruction was “in the form of a strangulated small bowel caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery years ago,” a common long-term health complication of that kind of surgery.
She also had “therapeutic levels,” of oxycodone, a drug used to treat severe pain, and other substances in her blood. However, the report said it did not contribute to her death.
In the months before her death, she reportedly complained of abdominal pain.
Lisa Marie Presley died on Jan. 12. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told People the department responded to a “cardiac arrest” call for a woman in her 50s who was not breathing. She was 54 years old.
“Presley was examined on Jan. 14 and the cause of death was deferred. Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined, and the medical examiner was requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies,” Sarah Ardalani, a representative of the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, told CNN.
She further explained, “Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.”
Lisa Marie Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley, confirmed the news of her passing in a statement to People.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss,” she said.
She concluded, “Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
