Dan Rather makes no bones about it. He will not be voting for former President Donald Trump — and it has nothing to do with Trump’s politics.

The former CBS newscaster took to X, formerly Twitter, to explain why he opposes Trump. It appears it has more to do with Trump as a person than as a politician.

“A few people have asked why I vehemently oppose Trump,” Rather wrote on Wednesday. “Let me make this perfectly clear. It’s not about politics. I’ve voted for both parties.”

“It’s about me, as a patriot, rejecting a cheating, lying, racist, treasonous, fascist and vile man who attacks the free press, and wants to lead the country I love,” he said. “It’s really that simple.”

A few people have asked why I vehemently oppose Trump.

Let me make this perfectly clear. It's not about politics. I've voted for both parties.

It's about me, as a patriot, rejecting a cheating, lying, racist, treasonous, fascist, and vile man who attacks the free press, and…

The responses on X varied from siding with Rather to calling it “fake news” — a rallying cry for Trump supporters.

You are fake news, Dan. Everyone knows.

Thank you Mr. Rather, you are a true American🙏🇺🇸🌊🙏

My father and uncle were WWll Veterans. My uncle was in France …he didn’t speak for a year after he came home. What they fought for, and why they served… is not respected by Trump. He doesn’t understand. He doesn’t care to even try.

My sentiments exactly. What really did it for me was how much he changed good people in my life. Politics is not what’s is important in our daily life. But many who think launching an American Inquisition is a good thing will put the world back in the dark ages. History repeats…

We get it, Dan. You prefer tyranny.

Trump has also been criticized more recently for his “Good Bless the USA” Bible for $60.

Rev. Al Sharpton, not only criticized Trump for starting to sell the Bibles during Holy Week, he also spoke against any minister or preacher who would use that Bible on Easter Sunday, The Wrap reported.

“They ought to be defrocked if they would even try and act like this is nothing but what it is, and that’s a hustle,” Sharpton said. “People ought to realize how offensive this is to those of us that really believe in the Bible. He’s doing this during Holy Week. Of all of the times you want to hustle using the Bible, why would you do it during Holy Week, which is really a spit in the face of people that really believe in the Bible, from a Christian point of view?”

"People [should] realize how offensive this is to those of us that really believe in the Bible."

“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough noted that Trump followers “idolize” him.

“When Donald Trump says, ‘I’ve never done anything wrong, no reason to be forgiven,’ they still fall right in line and say, ‘Oh, he’s the second coming of Christ,’” Scarborough said.

“They idolize him and it’s twisted.”
