A confrontation between kids in a Utah neighborhood has spiraled into a criminal case after a mother allegedly took justice into her own hands.

Prosecutors say Shannon Tufuga, 40, is accused of kidnapping her son’s 11-year-old bully and holding him at her home until he apologized, per the New York Post.

Charging documents obtained by KSL.com show Tufuga had been “driving around looking” for the boy in early September. She eventually found him riding his bike and confronted him.

Investigators allege she then forced the child into her car without the knowledge or consent of his parents.

From there, she drove him to her home in Provo, Utah.

Authorities say the boy was kept at the residence until he apologized to Tufuga’s son, who is on the autism spectrum.

The child did apologize, but the encounter reportedly didn’t end there.

Should Shannon Tufuga face penalties for her actions in her son's bullying situation?

According to police, Tufuga “threatened to have her husband beat up” the boy and told him he “was lucky she did not run over his bike.”

After the incident, she eventually drove the child back home.

The aftermath has had a lasting impact, according to investigators. Charging documents state the boy suffered “serious emotional distress” following the ordeal. He now reportedly experiences “high anxiety and has had to alter his daily routines significantly.”

Tufuga now faces two felony charges: child kidnapping and aggravated child abuse. Both are classified as second-degree felonies.

Officials said the charges were initially filed as first-degree felonies but were later reduced. The Utah County Attorney’s Office determined that lowering the charges would be “in the interests of justice.”

The case remains ongoing as authorities move forward with prosecution.
