A new bill has been proposed that would permanently ban illegal immigrants from ever being able to get U.S. citizenship.
According to the Daily Wire, the House bill was introduced by Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) and seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 to state that “no alien who enters the United States unlawfully shall be eligible for naturalization.”
“Under the Biden administration, we saw more than 10 million encounters at our borders, a crisis exacerbated by reckless catch-and-release policies that allowed criminals who broke our laws to remain in the United States,” Mills reportedly said. “President Trump has made it clear that anyone that tries to unlawfully undermine, exploit, or bypass our immigration system is a criminal.”
Co-sponsor Rep. Josh Breechen (R-Okla.) said illegal immigrants have no constitutional rights to be in the U.S. in the first place, and noted that the U.S. is a nation of laws.
“America is a nation of laws, and if we allow those laws to be subverted by illegal aliens who have no constitutional right to be here in the first place, then we will cease to be a nation,” Breechen said.
Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) has proposed his own legislation that would end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants and noted that it aims to end “birth tourism.” The bill came after President Donald Trump had signed an executive order also seeking to end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
“It’s going to have a huge impact on our immigration system because it’s going to close loopholes that exploit birthright citizenship and discourage illegal immigration and end the misuse of this really, this completely misinterpreted privilege,” Babin said.
The Daily Wire further reported that since Trump took office, illegal crossings on the southern border have dropped by 98%.
