Conservative radio host Dana Loesch warned Republicans Thursday evening on Fox News about the “danger” in Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s rebrand ahead of the 2028 presidential elections.

The Democrat governor announced on Feb. 26 the launch of his new podcast, “This is Gavin Newsom,” which would feature conversations with ‘some of the biggest leaders and architects in the MAGA movement’ in order to foster engagement between the parties. In the podcast’s first episode, released Thursday, Newsom made headlines after telling Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk that biological men competing in women’s sports is “deeply unfair.”

On “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Fox host Jesse Watters asked Loesch about the governor’s new stance, asking about the timing of Newsom’s comment on men competing in women’s sports.

“It’s almost like he turns out in 2026, and then he’s got a general election he’s got an eye on in 2028. It’s so weird that it’s going this way for Gavin Newsom,” Loesch said. “I’m so glad that you have your finger on the pulse of this and you’re talking about it because I actually think this is a danger for Republicans, this whole, I think all of it, is setting him up.”

“Sometimes I wonder if Democrats weeping and gnashing of teeth isn’t performative for a reason. Like they may be kind of goofy most of the time, right? But there are, and I’m loath to say this, some pretty strategically savvy ones within the Democrat party,” Loesch added. “They’re lost. They’re out in the desert. They have no message, no leader, nowhere to go. They have no other way to push back against the relentless, glorious onslaught that’s coming from the Trump administration right now. So what do they do?”

WATCH:

While Newsom touched on the hot-topic issue with Kirk, the California governor has previously supported policies that push for further transgender rights in the state, such as allowing men in women’s prisons and schools to secretly transition children without their parents’ knowledge or consent.

Since President Donald Trump’s election win, Democrats have struggled to find a central message or a member to uplift for the party. While some have pushed to focus on more progressive policies, others, like the Democratic National Committee’s newly elected Chairman Ken Martin, have said that their “messaging” and “brand” have been the main issues facing the party.

“They can’t go any further left. Where is there to go further left? I mean, you end up lapping yourself at that point. So they have to go all the way to the middle, and Gavin Newsom is how they’re floating it,” Loesch said. “So he hosts this podcast where he doesn’t go on everyone else’s shows. He brings them on his, so he establishes relevancy for himself beyond 2026 when he turns out. So he has this platform, and he’s going to use it as a marketing tool to help leverage him into the White House.”

“He’ll move to the middle. Democrats will look at him like he’s some sort of soothsayer and he’s their new Democrat messiah. They’re going to get behind him. You know, the media, they’ll carry his baggage,” Loesch added. “People on the left they’re very fickle. They have very short attention spans.”

Loesch went on to highlight the Democrat-led state’s major problems with the unfinished high-speed rail, despite billions of taxpayer dollars being poured into the project and Newsom’s allowance for “schools to socially transition kids without parental notification or consent.”

“He was there for all of this, and now he’s going to act like that’s not part of his legacy? Republicans cannot let him retcon this,” Loesch said.  “I will say this was his second attempt at reinventing himself. He tried to do it the first time going after the Florida blueprint with the California blueprint. That didn’t go out so well. He kind of fell on his face with that one. So whoever they brought in to help finesse his messaging, they’re doing good.”

Following the release of Newsom’s episode, the governor received criticism from Democratic and progressive party members, with Democratic Assemblymember Chris Ward and Sen. Caroline Menjivar saying they were “profoundly sickened and frustrated” by the remarks. However, this is not the first time Newsom has come under fire.

The California governor announced his podcast just over a month after Los Angeles County went up in flames, destroying thousands of homes and causing the state an estimated total economic loss of more than $250 billion. Newsom has also been criticized for his leadership in the state, as California has dealt with high crime and a rising homeless population for years.
