New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D), and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D) are joining forces in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak after announcing a joint travel advisory.

“I am announcing with [Gov Murphy] and [Gov Ned Lamont] a joint travel advisory,” Cuomo tweeted.

He added, “All individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID into NY, NJ, or CT must quarantine for 14 days. This travel advisory is effective midnight tonight.”

Cuomo issued another tweet specifying which states the advisory will apply to.

“NY, NJ and CT will continually update and publish on their respective websites a list of states to which the new advisory applies,” Cuomo tweeted.

He continued, “As of today, the list of states includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Washington.”

New York quickly became the epicenter of the pandemic. As of Wednesday afternoon, there are more than 394,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and a little over 31,000 deaths in New York alone.

According to Cuomo, any state that exceeds the set infection rate will be subjected to the travel advisory.

Cuomo reported New York has managed to bring the viral transmission rate down and the travel advisory will be implemented in order to prevent it from rising again.

He recognized the way the coronavirus could quickly spread between the three states.

“What happens in New York, happens in New Jersey, happens in Connecticut,” Cuomo said.

Murphy echoed Cuomo’s announcement on twitter.

“Today, [NY Gov Cuomo], [Gov Ned Lamont], and I announced a joint incoming travel advisory – all visitors to our region from states highly-impacted by [COVID19] should self-quarantine for 14 days,” Murphy tweeted.

He added, “We MUST keep our region moving in the right direction and tri-state residents safe.”
