California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) seems to be up to something.
Recently, he vetoed a bill backed by the Teamsters Union and another one that would have required judges to factor in if parents affirm their child’s gender identity in custody cases.
And on Wednesday, during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, he declined to push back on the assertion that he knows the President of the United States is a “cognitive mess.”
Hannity suggested the California governor wants to run for president as he said, “I know the truth. In your heart, in your mind, you want this. But you have basically gone on a media tour sucking up to Joe Biden.”
“And you know he’s a cognitive mess! You know it!” he added.
Instead of rejecting the premise of Hannity’s comment, Newsom responded, “I also know he’s got an extraordinary record to run on.”
“And I couldn’t be more proud,” he insisted.

Maybe Newsom is just completely lost when it comes to politics and it was only luck that got him to where he is today.
However, he does seem to have at least somewhat of a grasp of politics. And it is no secret there are concerns about President Joe Biden’s health that the White House would really like to have go away.
It seems as if Newsom really wanted to push back on Hannity’s claim, he would have.
Even if he thought it was a ridiculous statement, he could have said, “You know, Sean, that statement is disrespectful and I’m not going to dignify it with a response.”
Yet that is not how he responded. The first words out of his mouth were, “I also know…”
So perhaps Newsom is simply trying to build his profile ahead of a potential 2028 presidential election bid with his vetoes, going on Fox News, and agreeing to debate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
Or he thinks Biden is a “cognitive mess,” and he’s keeping it in the back of his mind amid his potential 2028 preparations that there is a non-zero chance the Democrats might need a new 2024 nominee. And if he looks a little more moderate and palatable to voters, that could potentially help him slide right into the slot if Biden was suddenly unable to continue running again.
