Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) came prepared with a visual aid during his debate with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
During the Fox News debate on Thursday night, Newsom sought to rip into Florida’s mental health services.
“Ron has literally the worst mental health system in America — forgive me outside of Mississippi and Texas,” Newsom said.
He went on, “And so with all due respect to be lectured on some of these issues, Ron DeSantis is not the one I’m going to be listening to.”

DeSantis: *hold up feces map* pic.twitter.com/mVmAHY5LsX
DeSantis responded by pulling out a graphic.
“This is a map of San Francisco. There’s a lot of plots on that. You may be asking, ‘What is that plotting?’” he said.
The governor explained, “This is an app where they plot the human feces that are found on the streets of San Francisco. You see how almost the whole thing is covered because that is what has happened in one of the previous greatest cities this country’s ever had.”
“Human feces is now a fact of life — except when a communist dictator comes to town. Then they cleaned up the streets. They lined the streets with Chinese flags, they didn’t put American flags there. They cleaned everything up. So they’re willing to do it for a communist dictator, but they’re not willing to do it for their own people,” DeSantis added.

The latter part of DeSantis’ comments refers to Newsom’s admission the streets of San Francisco were cleaned up ahead of President Joe Biden’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“I know folks say, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming into town,’ and that’s true because it’s true,” Newsom said at a press conference ahead of the summit.
He added, “But it’s also true for months and months and months prior to APEC we’ve been having different conversations and we’ve raised the bar of expectations between the city the county and the state.”
