President Joe Biden is getting some help from his old boss.
Biden and former President Barack Obama have been having secret meetings to discuss how to best way to defend the White House from former President Donald Trump, Fox News writes, citing a report.
New York Magazine ran a story Monday — “What Obama is Whispering to Biden” — which details the secret meetings between the two as they discuss how to save the 2024 presidential election.
One of Obama’s friends broke down the importance of the collaboration.
Obama’s “anxiety about the election is real” — a feeling shared by many other top Democrats.
This anxiety is real because “the country is closely divided, the media landscape is fractured, and Donald Trump may very well win,” per New York Magazine.
At first, Obama did not get involved in the 2020 campaign, but eventually promoted some key factors, such as convincing Biden campaign leaders Jen O’Malley Dillon and Anita Dunn to increase the campaign’s digital budget.
Obama was also key in setting up a group of tech tycoons to help Biden’s online operations moving forward.
The process has been a learning experience for Biden’s campaign, who originally believed Obama was not a key player.
That all changed by late 2023 when Obama emerged as a central figure in the campaign.
Since then Obama’s opinions on campaign logistics — including keeping staff in battleground states — have been taken to heart.
There has also been a greater effort to woo young and Black voters to vote Democrat.
“I take great pride in what the Biden administration has accomplished,” Obama said at an event with Biden at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
“And it’s a reminder that we don’t have to just vote against something in this election. We have somebody to worry about. And there’s a whole agenda that we should be concerned about.”
