Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) says President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan is “not nearly enough” to meet the needs of the American people.

“This is not nearly enough. The important context here is that it’s $2.25 [trillion] spread out over 10 years. For context, the COVID package was $1.9 [trillion] for this year *alone,* with some provisions lasting 2 years. Needs to be way bigger,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Tuesday evening.

Biden’s $2 trillion plan would rebuild roads, make repairs to the 10 most economically important bridges across the nation, eliminate lead pipes and service lines from water supplies, and include other initiatives to create millions of jobs.

Biden administration officials indicated the proposal would also speed up the fight against climate change and push for racial equity in the economy.

The proposal acts as the first part of Biden’s plan to rebuild the economy. The price tag could total $4 trillion over the span of a decade.

“The American Jobs Plan will invest in America in a way we have not invested since we built the interstate highways and won the Space Race,” White House officials said.

According to a Biden administration official, the president plans to raise taxes on corporations to pay for the package. Under his proposal, Biden will raise the corporate tax rate to 28%.

Top Republicans have formed a group, the Coalition to Protect American Workers, to fight Biden’s reported tax plan, as IJR reported.

Former Vice President Pence’s chief of staff, Marc Short, is one of the leaders of the group. He said in a statement the tax agenda would kill jobs and “stifle our economy as the country is finally emerging from a pandemic.”

Biden will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday to detail the plan.
