Ocasio-Cortez Spars With Cruz Over Failure To Pass COVID-19 Relief Bill

As the coronavirus spreads at a race pace throughout the country, Congress has failed to come together to pass a new relief bill. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) traded barbs over who was responsible for the hold up on a new bill.

In a tweet on Monday afternoon, Ocasio-Cortez slammed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for letting senators leaving Washington, D.C., while a new relief bill is still in limbo.

“People across the country are going hungry, COVID is set to explode, and Mitch McConnell dismissed the Senate last week,” she wrote, adding, “I don’t know how these people can sleep at night. I really don’t.”

Cruz responded by asking why Democratic senators are filibustering a $500 billion aid package.

However, the progressive star responded by focusing on procedural rules in the House. She said, “The House doesn’t have filibusters.” She also noted that House Democrats have passed other relief bills that the Senate has not passed.

“I hope someone else runs Cruz’s Twitter account because it’d be pretty embarrassing if a U.S. Senator didn’t know this,” she added.

Cruz fired back, “[Ocasio-Cortez] seems not to know there are Democrats in the Senate.”

“Or that Joe Biden (also a Dem) is publicly calling on Senate Dems to continue filibustering COVID relief because he thinks it will help them win Georgia,” he added.

On Tuesday afternoon, she responded, “You know in the House, when we don’t have the votes to pass something, we work on the bill until we pick up the votes to pass it. That includes GOP votes – & yes, GOP have voted for my leg too.”

“The Senate should try it sometime! People are going hungry as you tweet from vacay,” she added.

  1. “Not a fan of AOC, but she did prove that it not difficult to debate Ted Cruz.” Phyllis

“AOC proved that it is not difficult to debate Ted Cruz.” Saying that you are not a fan of AOC is unnecessary, superfluous and irrelevant. You didn’t say that you weren’t a fan of King Donald The Loser or Ted Cruz, right?

  2. Not a fan of AOC, but she did prove that it not difficult to debate Ted Cruz. Ted is of the mindset that if he repeats something is magically becomes factual. That doesn’t work in the real world. An excellent example would be Trump tweeting numerous times “WE WON.” In the real world, Biden 306 electoral votes and Trump 232 electoral votes. Popular vote for Biden currently exceeds 80 million (51.1%). That has not changed no matter how many times Trump tweets it. Another example would be “voter fraud.” 30 lawsuits and ZERO EVIDENCE OF FRAUD has been presented to the courts.
