House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Donald Trump from office.
“In calling for this seditious act, the president has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people. I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment,” Pelosi said during her press conference on Thursday.
She added, “If the vice president and Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment. That is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus and the American people, by the way.”

Pelosi’s comments come just one day after Trump supporters flooded the U.S. Capitol in response to the certification of the electoral votes.
Democrats are not the only ones urging Pence to remove Trump from office.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) became the first Republican lawmaker to throw his support behind the effort, as IJR previously reported.
“I call for the vice president and members of the Cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people and that we have a sane captain on the ship… It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and end this nightmare,” Kinzinger said in a video he posted to Twitter on Thursday.
He continued, “The president caused this. The president is unfit and the president is unwell. And the president now must relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily.”
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Twitter he believes the riots were incited by Trump and he “must not hold office one day longer.”
He went on, “The quickest and most effective way—it can be done today — to remove this president from office would be for the Vice President to immediately invoke the 25th Amendment. If the Vice President and the Cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress must reconvene to impeach President Trump.”
