House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is optimistic the United States will enter a period of prosperity after Americans chose President-Elect Joe Biden to be the nation’s next leader.
“Today marks the dawning of a new day of hope for America. A record-shattering 75 million Americans cast their ballots to elect Joe Biden President of the United States – a historic victory that has handed Democrats a mandate for action,” Pelosi said in a statement.
She explained Biden will “finally begin to crush the coronavirus so we can safely reopen our economy and schools.”
Pelosi argued, “In President-elect Biden, the American people delivered a mandate for lower health costs, a mandate for creating bigger paychecks by rebuilding America’s infrastructure, and a mandate for cleaner government that works for the public interest, not the special interests. And in President-elect Biden, they have elected a unifier who values faith, family and community, and who will work tirelessly to heal our nation.”
According to Pelosi, after winning “with a strong margin,” Biden and Vice President-elect Harris “will have a strong Democratic House Majority by their side.”
She concluded, “Working together, we have the opportunity to deliver extraordinary progress For The People.”
Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called Biden to congratulate him.
A senior Democratic aide said it was a “happy call.”
While driving through Brooklyn, New York, Schumer held his phone up to the window so Biden could hear his supporters’ cheers.
I called Joe Biden, and I held up the phone to let him hear Brooklyn cheering.

“We can now say that Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States and Kamala Harris will be the next Vice President of the United States. President-elect Biden will be a great president for all Americans, and Senate Democrats are going to do everything we can to help him get things done to help the American people – mostly immediately by gaining a majority in the Senate,” Schumer said in a statement.

President Donald Trump refused to accept the results of the election and claimed the election is “far from over,” as IJR previously reported.
