Pelosi: The 'Enemy Is Within' the House of Representatives

Share

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is suggesting that lawmakers need additional security as she claims members of the House of Representatives are facing threats from their colleagues.

During a weekly press conference on Thursday, Pelosi said, “I do believe, and I have said this all along, that we will probably need a supplemental for more security for members when the enemy is within the House of Representatives.”

“A threat that members are concerned about in addition to what is happening outside,” she added.

Later, she was asked to clarify what she meant about the enemy being “within” the House.

She said, “We have members of Congress that want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence on other members of Congress.”

Pelosi’s comments come after CNN’s KFile published a report on freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) social media history, from before she took office, where she appeared to signal support for posts that called for the execution of prominent Democrats.

Greene liked one post in 2019 that said the quickest way to remove Pelosi her post was for her to get “a bullet to the head.”

And in 2018, Greene commented on one post that questioned when former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would be killed.

She wrote, “Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”

In response to CNN’s report, Greene took to Twitter to claim, “Fake News CNN is writing yet another hit piece on me focused on my time before running for political office.”

“I’ve had teams of people manage my pages. Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared. Some did not represent my views. Especially the ones that CNN is about to spread across the internet,” she added.

Some House Democrats have raised concerns that Congressional Republicans led “reconnaissance tours” ahead of the January 6 at the U.S. Capitol to help individuals plan the assault.

Additionally, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said that “a very considerable amount” of Congressional Democrats do not feel safe around their Republican colleagues.

“We still don’t yet feel safe around other members of Congress,” she said as she claimed Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) tried to bring a gun on the House floor.

Harris’ office said in a statement that he carries a gun “because his and his family’s lives have been threatened by someone who has been released awaiting trial.”

The statement also denied that he tried to bring a gun on the House floor.
