The months-long feud between President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is showing no signs of abating.
Pelosi discussed the president’s latest claims about alleged fraud connected to mail-in voting with MSNBC’s Craig Melvin on Monday when she said, “Forget him.”
She continued, “Let’s not dwell on what he did in the past. Let’s go forward and crush the virus. Let’s go forward and have a free and fair election, and whoever wins, we will honor that decision by the American people.”
Melvin interjected to ask, “Have you and the president just stopped talking? Is that where we are?”
He noted that Pelosi said she had not spoken to Trump about the coronavirus relief bill or the wildfires in the western part of the country.
She responded, “Well, I’ve spoken to his representatives, and he says that they speak for him. And I take that to be true about the secretary of the Treasury, and we have worked together.”
Additionally, she noted that she worked with administration officials to pass the new U.S.-Mexico-Canda trade deal late last year.
She added that she does not find speaking to Trump a “good use of time.”
Watch the video below:
Trump and Pelosi have had a particularly contentious relationship after a meeting last year with Democratic Congressional leaders on the decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria deteriorated.
During that meeting, Trump reportedly called Pelosi a “third-rate politician.”
After that, the lawmakers left the meeting. Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Pelosi said, “I pray for the president all the time, and I tell him that. I pray for his safety and that of his family. Now we have to pray for his health, because this was a very serious meltdown on the part of the president.”
Since that meeting, Pelosi and Trump have rarely been seen together and have traded several barbs.
At Trump’s State of the Union address in February, the feud was on full display as Trump appeared to snub Pelosi by refusing to shake her hand, as IJR reported.
As the president finished his speech, Pelosi was seen dramatically ripping up the transcript of the address.
Later that week, Trump took a veiled shot at Pelosi during the nonpartisan National Prayer Breakfast, “Nor do I like people who say, ‘I pray for you,’ when they know that that’s not so.”
Since then, the two have continued to trade insults.
In May, Pelosi addressed Trump’s admission that he was taking hydroxychloroquine to prevent against the coronavirus.
She said, “He’s our president and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group, what is morbidly obese, they say.”
