People Report Feeling Safer in DC: ‘Common Sense Prevails’

WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 12: Military vehicles with the Washington, DC National Guard are parked near the Washington Monument on August 12, 2025 in Washington, DC. The Trump administration has initiated a federal takeover of DC police and mobilized the DC National Guard, saying the moves are necessary to restore order in the city. The ink is barely dry on the executive order President Donald Trump signed to enact the federal takeover of police in the nation’s capital and people are already report feeling safer.

Trump pointed to the crime statistics in Washington, D.C., when he  federalized the police department and deployed 800 National Guard troops, per the Daily Wire.

The city is also working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its fight against illegal immigration.

“Went on a run through DC tonight. Insane amount of people out doing the same,” James Laverty wrote X on Thursday. “Cops everywhere but the vibe was different. People feel safe again. Common sense prevails.”

Journalist and commentator Katie Pavlich wrote about thr notable difference in D.C.

“First time at Union Station this morning since Trump’s crime crackdown and there wasn’t a single crazy person screaming, vagrant or person doing drugs. Instead, lots of families visiting D.C.,” she wrote. “Wonderful!!!”

Additionally, a woman’s video posted to TikTok and X, which commented on the safe vibes of the D.C. area, went viral, racking up millions of views.

Another post shared a TikTok of a woman talking about how safe she felt.

“Finally able to chill at a red light with my windows down, not worried about if one of them young n****s is coming,” the woman said. “Riding through the city, feeling more safe than I ever felt.”

Some Democrats, however, are not as optimistic.

They include Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) called Trump a “tinpot dictator” for his actions in D.C., Fox News reported.

“First, Donald Trump used the Marines and the National Guard to support his mass deportation agenda in Los Angeles,” Schiff posted Aug. 11. “Now, he’s using similar tactics in D.C. like a tinpot dictator. Don’t look away. Don’t stay silent. If you do, don’t be surprised if it’s your city next.”
