It appears most Americans are optimistic of the job President-elect Donald Trump will do when he returns to the White House in January.
According to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS, 54% believe Trump will do well in his second term, while 55% think he is doing well during the transition period, CNN reported.
Trump won the November election as President Joe Biden’s approval rating sank.
About 7 in 10 Americans believe Trump will bring change to the country (68%), but only about half of Americans (48%) think it will be change for the better.
Trump readies for his return to the White House with optimism even though he left four years ago with negative ratings.
Most say things in the U.S. are going badly (61%), but those who say things are going “very badly” is only at 15%, the lowest in this polling since May 2018.
And the percentage of people who say things are going well — 38% — is the highest since December 2021.
Trump ranks well in dealing with the economy as 39% express a lot of confidence in him. The same holds true for his immigration policy (39%) and is slightly down regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine (37%).
According to the poll, a little over 35% have deep confidence in Trump’s ability to provide real leadership. Only 3 in 10 have a lot of confidence in who he handles foreign affairs (30%) or that he will use the powers of the presidency responsibly (29%).
Trump didn’t fare as well as far as his ability to appoint the best person to serve in his administration.
Confidence in Trump to choose the right people is down from what it was in 2016 — going from 32% to 26%.
Seventy-five percent of Americans say they want Trump to “mostly choose people who have the best experience and qualifications for each role, even if they may not always support his positions.” Twenty-five percent want him to focus on those people who will “always support his positions, even if they don’t have the best experience and qualifications for that role.”
When questioned about Trump’s appointments of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, 49% approve, 50% disapprove.
As far as party lines go, 92% of Republicans approve, while 88% of Democrats disapprove.
Even fewer independents agree with the choices as 45% approve and 54% disapprove.
