The man suspected in an apparent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump allegedly put pen to paper detailing his plan months before the shooting.

In court documents filed Monday, prosecutors alleged Ryan Routh, 58, blatantly said in a letter, “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump,” per The Hill.

“Dear world, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster,” Routh allegedly wrote in the letter.

Prosecutors Routh put the letter inside a box and gave it to an unnamed witness “several months” before he shot at Trump at the Republican presidential candidate’s West Palm Beach golf course in Florida Sept. 15.

The DOJ just published a letter written by Routh after the assassination attempt

The box also had ammunition and other letters in it.

The witness opened it after finding out about the incident.

The filing showed Routh’s phone pinged cell towers near the golf course as well as Mar-a-Lago for about a month before the shooting.

Authorities searched Routh’s car and allegedly found a handwritten list of dates and places Trump was or was expected to be.

Routh also allegedly offered $150,000 to “whomever can complete the job.”

“Everyone across the globe from the youngest to the oldest know that Trump is unfit to be anything, much less as US president. U.S. presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity,” the letter read.

Routh is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing Monday.

Routh was charged with possessing a gun while a felon and having an illegally obliterated serial number on his firearm.

More charges may be coming after prosecutors seek an indictment from a grand jury.

Routh traveled from the Greensboro, North Carolina area to West Palm Beach on Aug. 14.
