A meeting between Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) and Vivek Ramaswamy may provide a hint as to who may be offered the Ohio Senate seat left vacant by JD Vance when he became the vice president-elect.

That person may be Ramaswamy himself, two people close to the situation told Politico on the condition of anonymity.

The two reportedly met at the governor’s mansion over the weekend to discuss the post as DeWine is tasked with choosing a replacement for Vance.

Ramaswamy and billionaire Elon Musk were recently chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

According to one of the sources, Ramaswamy is still interested in continuing to serve on DOGE as well as running for governor in the future.

Musk, Ramaswamy and Trump believe a DOGE ally would be a good thing to have in the Senate.

If Ramaswamy was in the Senate, it could pave the way for Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to succeed DeWine when the time comes.

“DeWine isn’t incentivized to pick Ramaswamy for Senate, but Vivek is also the one roadblock to Husted,” a source said.

Ohio Capital Journal reported DeWine and Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted met with Trump last month at Mar-a-Lago.

Ramaswamy recently upset MAGA activists regarding H-1B visas.

He said tech companies hire foreign workers over Americans because Americans have “venerated mediocrity over excellence.”

DeWine has said he wants to pick someone who can win the special election in 2026 as well as retain the seat in 2028.
