Rand Paul Pushes for Elon Musk to Be Speaker of the House

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 05: Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Co-Chair of the newly announced Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), arrives on Capitol Hill on December 05, 2024 in Washington, DC. The South African-born Elon Musk can never be President of the United States, but he could become speaker of the House of Representatives.

Or at least that is what  Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested Thursday morning in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress … ,” Paul wrote.

The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress . . .

Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it .  . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’…

“Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk… think about it… nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds),” he added.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said she would not rule out supporting Musk to become Speaker and turn out Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.), the current speaker.

“I’d be open to supporting [Elon Musk] for Speaker of the House,” she posted. “DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress to enact real government efficiency.”

“The establishment needs to be shattered just like it was yesterday. This could be the way,” she wrote.

Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration, per The Hill.

The advisory panel will be tasked to cut spending on a federal level.

The pair have shown their influence in drumming up opposition to a bipartisan spending deal Wednesday. This led ultimately ending in Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance encouraging Republican lawmakers to do the same.

Many on the other side of the aisle have criticized Musk’s influence over Trump.

“It’s one thing when you have Donald Trump governing by tweet, as he did in his first term, where he was in communication with Congress, but now you have Elon Musk, an unelected oligarch, governing by tweet,” Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday night on CNN’s “AC360.”

“This is absurd,” he added.

The Speaker does not have to be an elected member of the House to serve in the leadership role.

In fact, former Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) wanted former Secretary of State Colin Powell to become speaker in 2015.
