We’re now 44 days into President Donald Trump’s second term, and a renewed sense of optimism is sweeping across America, reminiscent of the enduring promise of the American Dream. Central to this resurgence is the administration’s policies aimed at reigniting prosperity for small businesses, particularly evident in South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.

President Trump has been keen on drawing back the red tape in the federal bureaucracy and reminding everyone in the swamp that our government is supposed to serve the American worker, not the other way around.

Last night the president made it clear: “We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in 4 years…and we are just getting started!”

America’s momentum is back.

And he is absolutely right.

One of the administration’s hallmark initiatives is the declaration of a national energy emergency, designed to streamline the development of fossil fuel projects by easing regulatory hurdles. This move aims to lower energy costs, benefiting both consumers and businesses. We have a president who wants to invest in American-made, not Chinese.

Back at home, the appointment of Melissa Lindler as the new district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration signifies a commitment to local economic growth. Lindler’s leadership is expected to enhance support for entrepreneurs and small business owners, providing them with the necessary tools and resources to thrive in the state’s economy.

Projections show that South Carolina is poised to add 1,205 new local franchise businesses in 2025, generating approximately 32,663 jobs. This anticipated growth underscores our state’s favorable business climate and the positive impact of supportive policies.

Just the other day, Gov. Henry McMaster announced the state saw its highest volume of export sales since 2019 totaling $38 billion. Strong automotive, machinery and plastics industries have grown rapidly in the past decade.

The administration’s focus on reducing bureaucratic red tape has also played a pivotal role in empowering small businesses. By focusing on decades-long waste, fraud and abuse, our government is aiming to create a more efficient environment for businesses to operate, saving American taxpayers billions of dollars.

Thanks to the Department of Government Efficiency Commission, the government is finally being held accountable to the people. American taxpayers have a right to know where their tax dollars are being spent.

While these measures have been met with both praise and criticism, the tangible benefits observed in South Carolina’s 5th District more than speak for themselves. The jobs are coming back. Entrepreneurs in the region are experiencing increased support and opportunities, aligning with the administration’s vision of revitalizing the American Dream.

In short time, this renewed growth and opportunity will heal the economic scars left by four years of inflation and uncertainty driven by bad policy from Washington.

Every South Carolinian — from the foothills to the lowcountry — is united in a similar want and a similar need: prosperity, security and sanity back in our way of life. As a lifelong resident of the Palmetto state, there has never been such a force to be reckoned with than the renewed promise of the American dream throughout our great state.

As President Trump’s policies continue to unfold, the resilience and adaptability of small businesses in South Carolina and across the nation remain a testament to the enduring spirit of American enterprise. It’s back better than ever.

Ralph Norman represents the 5th Congressional District of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.
