President Donald Trump had a poignant answer when a reporter at the Oval Office asked Ireland’s Prime Minister Micheál Martin about actress Rosie O’Donnell’s relocation to the Emerald Isle.

“Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people, great attitude, many in this room right now. Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland?” the reporter asked, adding that O’Donell would only ruin Ireland’s “happiness level.”

“Thank you, I like that question,” Trump replied.

“Did you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is?” Trump asked Martin.

“You’re better off not knowing,” Trump retorted.

As previously reported by IJR, the actress moved to Ireland in January after Trump won the 2024 election. In a 9-minute-long video posted to TikTok, O’Donnell explained how she had been feeling since she moved with her 12-year-old daughter.

“I’m here in Ireland, and its beautiful and warm, not physically its actually quite cold. Moved here on January 15th, and it’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. People are so loving and so kind, so welcoming and I’m very grateful,” O’Donnell said.

O’Donnell said she was in the process of getting her Irish citizenship because her grandparents were from Ireland and noted that she had never thought of herself as someone who would live in another country but said it the move would “be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child.”

The actress went on to note that she felt that she and her child needed to take care of themselves and “make some hard decisions,” and went on to call out the mainstream media for “letting us all down” and said they had not “been doing their job” to “maintain democracy.”

“So, here’s hoping that they [media] will get better before it’s too late,” O’Donnell said. “And here’s hoping that it’s not too late already. Protect your sanity is all I can say. Protect your sanity as much as you can and try not to swim in the chaos if possible. But I know it’s nearly impossible when you’re there in the middle of it.”
