House Republicans are vowing to hold Hunter Biden accountable after he ignored a subpoena.
On Wednesday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in a joint statement, “Hunter Biden today defied lawful subpoenas and we will now initiate contempt of Congress proceedings. We will not provide special treatment because his last name is Biden.”
“As our committees were today prepared to depose Hunter Biden, he chose to make a public statement on Capitol Hill instead where he said his father, Joe Biden, was not financially involved in his family’s business dealings,” the statement continued.
The lawmakers then asked how President Joe Biden was “involved” and insisted evidence shows he met with his son’s business partners.

Finally, the statement read, “Today, the House will vote on an impeachment inquiry resolution to strengthen our legal case in courts as we face obstruction from the White House and witnesses.”
“Today’s obstruction by Hunter Biden reinforces the need for a formal vote. President Biden and his family must be held accountable for their corruption and construction, and we will provide that to the American people,” it added.
On Wednesday, Hunter Biden stood outside the Capitol and offered to testify in House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry in a public hearing.
However, he refused to sit for a closed-door deposition.
Speaking outside the Capitol, Hunter Biden said, “I’m here today to make sure the House committees’ illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence, and lies.”
Turning to allegations the president benefited from his business dealings, he said, “Let me state as clearly as I can: My father was not financially involved in my business.”
He also took aim at Republicans leading the investigations into the Biden family as he claimed, “James Comer, Jim Jordan, Jason Smith, and their colleagues have distorted the facts.”
“There is no fairness or decency in what these Republicans are doing. They have lied over and over about every aspect of my personal and professional life,” the younger Biden added.
