Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. believes he has a better chance of beating former President Donald Trump than incumbent President Joe Biden.
“We only have one chance to beat Donald Trump, and we need a nominee who can get the job done. And that would be me,” Kennedy said during a presentation on campaign polling, per Politico.
Kennedy made this claim even though he trails Biden by about 30 points in the polls.
He also said Biden should take a “No Spoiler Pledge” — to drop out of the race should he do worse than Kennedy in a 30,000-plus person poll in mid-October.
Kennedy said he would ask the same of Trump, by the former president “is not a spoiler because he can actually win.”
Kennedy also addressed jabs from both Republicans and Democrats regarding whether he could swing the general election.
Trump has gone after Kennedy by saying a vote for him would be a “wasted vote.”
On the other side of the aisle, Democratic National Committee spokesperson Matt Corridoni said the idea of Biden dropping out of the race is “as deeply unserious his campaign is.”
Kennedy pointed to a poll from John Zogby Strategies to show why he should remain in the race and not Biden. According to the survey, Kennedy was more apt to beat Trump without a Democrat in the race.
“Is there any scenario in which President Trump participates in the election and doesn’t win it? Yes, there is exactly one. And that scenario is that President Biden acknowledges that he cannot win,” said Kennedy’s campaign manager Amaryllis Fox Kennedy.
