Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa of New York City called on former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York to end his mayoral campaign Wednesday, citing his past scandals.
Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani of New York City secured the Democratic nomination in the June 24 primary, beating out Cuomo and several other challengers while running on a far-left platform that included declaring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be arrested if he came to New York City and defending the boycott, divest and sanction movement (BDS). Sliwa dismissed the chances of Cuomo and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams of New York City during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
“Stay in the Hamptons with the billionaires, Andrew Cuomo, you are not ready for prime time,” Sliwa said. “I’m in the streets, I’m in the subways, I’m getting the Millennials, I’m getting the Gen Z’s, I’m taking on Zohran Mamdani and the socialists where he kicked your butt politically. You don’t have a right to return. You should be ashamed of yourself, because you have helped turn New York City over to the socialists.”

“I am the only one standing in their way. Eric Adams is damaged goods. Every day a new case of corruption in the police department. They believe he is corrupt,” Sliwa continued. “Andrew Cuomo is a creep. Slapping fannies and killing grannies. Everybody likes Curtis Sliwa, my favorable ratings are the highest in this election cycle. So guess what? You have gotta vote for the guy who would, if you cut my veins and arteries, I bleed New York City.”
Cuomo resigned as governor of New York in 2021 after a sexual harassment scandal, while also coming under fire for policies requiring nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients.
The Biden administration Justice Department secured an indictment charging Adams with bribery, fraud and accepting illegal campaign donations in September 2024. The DOJ later moved to dismiss the charges after Adams reportedly agreed to work with the Trump administration on combating illegal immigration, according to multiple reports.
“The rest of these guys don’t seem to want to stay in New York City to campaign. I live it, I eat it, I breathe it, I’m the blue-collar working-class guy, and I will fight for all of the basic belief systems that you were raised on, Sean, and that I have been raised on, and we want to pass onto other generations,” Sliwa said.
Sliwa rose to prominence through his involvement with the Guardian Angels in the 1980s and 1990s.
