Bruce Springsteen is back in the headlines, not for a concert or a tour, but for releasing what may be his most politically incendiary song yet — “Streets of Minneapolis.” The anti-ICE, anti-Trump protest anthem is already causing a storm online, as the 74-year-old rocker takes aim at law enforcement, federal immigration agents, and the former president himself in what some are calling a musical tribute to leftist street chaos.
The lyrics don’t hold back. Springsteen refers to ICE agents as “occupiers” and “thugs,” and brands President Trump “King Trump,” likening DHS personnel to an invading army sent to crush dissent in the streets. He praises violent protesters as “citizens standing for justice,” and paints federal officers as killers — without even a passing mention of the lawlessness, rioting, and destruction that swept through Minneapolis for months on end.
Springsteen released the song with a statement on Bluesky, claiming it was written “in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis” and dedicated to “our innocent immigrant neighbors” as well as two people named in the lyrics — Alex Pretti and Renee Good — described as having died on the streets.
But what Springsteen leaves out is just as telling as what he put in. There’s no word in the song about the small businesses burned to the ground, the police officers assaulted, or the neighborhoods shattered by the anti-ICE riots he now romanticizes. There’s no acknowledgment of the thousands of violent criminals ICE has taken off the streets — murderers, rapists, cartel members — to protect American citizens. In Springsteen’s version of events, it’s all just jackboots and injustice.
Bruce Springsteen released the pointedly emotional protest song “Streets of Minneapolis,” directly criticizing ICE, President Trump and his top aides.
“If your skin is black or brown my friend / You can be questioned or deported on sight,” he sings. https://t.co/7fcYAoaUyn pic.twitter.com/CmiflrurtY
Should Bruce Springsteen's new song be viewed as a valid protest against immigration policies?— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) January 29, 2026
Let’s also not forget: this is the same Bruce Springsteen who loudly backed Joe Biden — the president whose open-border policies created the surge of illegal immigration we’re facing today. And yes, the same Springsteen who also championed Kamala Harris, even as she doubled down on soft immigration enforcement.
Meanwhile, Trump has made it clear that he plans to reinstate one of the most aggressive deportation efforts in history — a move supported by millions of Americans fed up with unchecked migration and criminal activity pouring through a southern border left wide open.
So while Springsteen sings mournful lyrics over guitars and imagery of blood in the snow, many Americans are listening to a different tune — one about restoring law and order, securing our border, and protecting our families. Springsteen may still have fans, but with songs like this, he’s tuning out a huge chunk of the country that’s had enough of leftist chaos masquerading as protest.
