Mayes, who was elected in 2022, made the remarks as immigration enforcement activity expands in Arizona. She also pledged to prosecute any ICE agent who violates state law.

Department of Justice officials vowed to investigate the incident, with Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon emphasizing potential federal civil rights violations. 

“We’re here to arrest a child sex offender. And you guys are out here honking."

He blamed the federal government for failing to enact immigration reform.

“Ohio neighborhoods are safer thanks to President Trump and ICE.”

The incident unfolded as the agent attempted to conduct a traffic stop connected to the arrest effort.

The federal agent involved in the Jan. 7 shooting suffered internal bleeding after being struck by the woman’s vehicle. 

“All the patriots of ICE want to do is remove them from your neighborhood and send them back to the prisons and mental institutions from where they came …”
