Tom Brady is no stranger to headlines, but few expected his latest one to involve dogs — and confusion over whether he kicks them.

The moment happened during Fox’s Sunday night broadcast of the Bears vs. Cowboys game, when Brady, now a lead game analyst, was giving live commentary on a sideline outburst from Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. After Pickens threw his helmet in frustration, Brady reacted with a remark that instantly raised eyebrows.

“Those helmets can be… like a dog at home,” Brady said. “Kick the dog, throw the helmet. Whatever it takes.”

The comment aired live — and it didn’t take long for NFL fans to rewind, replay, and start asking questions.

Some listeners assumed it was a metaphor. Others weren’t so sure.

One fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Tom Brady just admitted to kicking his dog at home…” Another chimed in, “Brady comparing a tantrum on the field to kicking your dog at home isn’t the kind of commentary I expected tonight.” Even Skip Bayless, who has praised Brady countless times in the past, quipped, “I hope Brady didn’t go home after bad losses and angrily throw the dog.”

Brady owns a dog — a rescue pup named Fluffy, adopted back in 2016 with then-wife Gisele Bündchen. The couple also shared Lua, their older dog who passed away in 2023. Brady posted an emotional tribute to Lua at the time, sharing a photo of his kids hugging the dog and writing, “Forever in our hearts.”

As of now, neither Brady nor Fox Sports has issued a clarification or apology for the remark.

The incident added fuel to another growing controversy around Brady’s dual role in the league: lead NFL analyst for Fox and part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. That combination has sparked recent debates over whether Brady could access information during production meetings and share it with his team.

Former Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce recently addressed this on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio, saying that Brady “absolutely” had access to insights that were useful for the Raiders. According to Pierce, Brady’s presence around team practices and production meetings made him “very informative,” adding, “It’s not hard for him to hear things and have tidbits.”

While praising Brady’s football IQ, Pierce didn’t hide his discomfort with the setup. “I’d be nervous,” he said. “If he’s at Friday practice, you might want to limit some things.”

Brady’s situation is unusual in the NFL. Though known for playing under the so-called “Brady Rules” on the field, his post-retirement role comes with its own special terms. As outlined in NFL policy, Brady is not permitted to visit any team’s facilities outside the Raiders’.

Still, questions remain about whether that separation is enough to prevent conflicts of interest — especially when the man holding the microphone on Sunday is also holding a stake in an NFL team.

As for the dog comment, viewers are still wondering what Brady meant — and why it was said. Whether it was a slip, a joke, or a misunderstood metaphor, it left fans stunned and stirred up new conversation about where the line is between candid and careless.

For now, the NFL legend who once made headlines for impossible comebacks is once again front and center — but this time, for reasons no one expected.
