The cause of death for actor Treat Williams has been revealed following a fatal motorcycle crash in June.
In a news release obtained by People, the Vermont State Police disclosed the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York determined Williams “died of severe trauma and blood loss as a result of the crash.”
On Aug. 1, the prosecutor’s office requested the state police issue “a citation on a charge of grossly negligent operation with death” to Ryan Koss, 35, who was driving the Honda Element SUV that crashed into Williams.
Koss was processed on the charge following his voluntary meeting with troopers and was released. His arraignment is set to take place in September 2023.
Williams died on June 12. He was 71 years old.
His longtime agent Barry McPherson confirmed the news of his passing in a statement to People.
“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off,” he said.
McPherson referred to the “Everwood” star as “the nicest guy” and “talented.”

Williams’ family also released a statement to ABC News.
They shared:
“It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vermont after a fatal motorcycle accident, As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time. Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft. Treat was dearly and deeply loved and respected by his family and everyone who knew him.”
In a statement to People, in the aftermath of Williams’ passing, his “Everwood” co-star, Gregory Smith, remembered him as a “wonderful man and a brilliant actor.”
“Above all, he loved his family so much. I’m very grateful for the time I got to spend as part of his extended TV family,” he added.
