President-elect Donald Trump has nameformer Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan to serve as his “border czar.”
Trump made the announcement late Sunday, The Hill reported.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that Homan would be responsibile for “the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security.”
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders,” Trump posted. “Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”
Trump will likely crack down on immigration as it is one of his focus areas. By appointing Homan, Trump has an ally who is willing to carry out his orders.
The president-elect will likely resume construction of a wall along the border with Mexico that was stopped during the Biden administration.
Homan was ICE director for the first 16 months of Trump’s first term.
