Former PresidentĀ Donald Trump is warning Americans Democrats’ $3.5 trillion spending plan is “an assault on our Nation.”

Early on Wednesday, Democrats passed a $3.5 trillion budget resolution for family services, health, and environment programs, as NPR reports. Lawmakers passed Democrats’ budget resolution in a 50-49 vote.

Trump responded in a statement, saying, “While you were all sleeping, the Radical Democrats advanced a plan that will be known as the $3.5 trillion Communist Plan to Destroy America. This legislation is an assault on our Nation, our communities, and on the American Dream.”

The former president argued the plan “destroys our Borders and the rule of law by granting dangerous amnesty that will flood America’s beautiful cities,” adding, “It will overwhelm our schools, and make our Nation less safe.”

The statement continued, “It raises taxes like we have never seen, while also making many things you buy everyday more expensive (gas, groceries, and much more). And don’t forget the crazy Green New Deal. America, you are being robbed in the dark of night. It’s time to wake up!”

Others have raised concerns about the proposal, including Sen.Ā Joe ManchinĀ (D-W.Va.), as IJR reported.

The senator said in a statement he voted in support of moving forward with the budget reconciliation process because “it is important to discuss the fiscal policy future of this country.”

Manchin added, “However, I have serious concerns about the grave consequences facing West Virginians and every American family if Congress decides to spend another $3.5 trillion.”

He explained, “These are not indications of an economy that requires trillions in additional spending. Given the current state of the economic recovery, it is simply irresponsible to continue spending at levels more suited to respond to a Great Depression or Great Recession – not an economy that is on the verge of overheating.”

The senator expressed his belief that “continuing to spend at irresponsible levels puts at risk our nation’s ability to respond to the unforeseen crises our country could face.”

NPR notes the majority of the proposal could be paid for with higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations. According to House leaders, their chamber will return from summer recess in two weeks to vote on the proposal.
