Trump Claims He Was ‘Tortured’ in Jail in Campaign Email; Selling Mugs with Mug Shot

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - AUGUST 24: In this handout provided by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, former U.S. President Donald Trump poses for his booking photo at the Fulton County Jail on August 24, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Trump was booked on 13 charges related to an alleged plan to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Former President Donald Trump is taking the term mug shot to a whole new level.

The campaign for the presumptive GOP presidential nominee sent out an email in an effort to raise funds Monday.

Trump is claiming he was “tortured” as he was getting his mug shot taken at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia and is now seeking campaign funds by selling coffee mugs with that mug shot on them, per The Hill.

“I want you to remember what they did to me. They tortured me in the Fulton County Jail, and TOOK MY MUGSHOT. So guess what? I put it on a mug for the WHOLE WORLD TO SEE!” the email quoted Trump.

The Hill also issued a correction, stating, “The same email for the coffee mugs was also sent by the Trump campaign in May. It also included the language on torture.”

Last August, the former president surrendered to the Fulton County Jail, arriving in a presidential-style motorcade.

Trump was booked, fingerprinted and the photo for a mug shot was taken. This 20-minute event made Trump the first U.S. president in history known to have his mug shot taken.

Trump faces 13 counts resulting from his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The same email was also sent by the Trump campaign in May and included the torture allegation.

This isn’t the first time Trump has attempted to turn lemons into lemonade by profiting off his mug shot.

He started selling merchandise — including T-shirts, mugs, koozies and bumper stickers shortly after the mug shot was taken.

The merchandise also features “Never surrender.”

Trump, along with 18 others, was indicted in Georgia over allegations they were part of a plot to illegally attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Four defendants have since pleaded guilty as part of plea deals.

Trump, as well as the remaining defendants, have pleaded not guilty.

The Georgia case is one of four criminal cases involving Trump.

One of those cases has been decided as Trump was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records.

The jury found him guilty of making payments to reimburse his former attorney, who paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding their sexual encounter.
