Trump Denies He Is Falling Asleep in Court: ‘I Simply Close My Beautiful Blue Eyes, Sometimes’

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 2: Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends his trial for allegedly covering up hush money payments at Manhattan Criminal Court on May 2, 2024 in New York City. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 presidential election. After a reports the former president has fallen asleep during his trial for paying hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels, he is shooting down the claims.

“Contrary to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA, I don’t fall asleep during the Crooked D.A.’s Witch Hunt, especially not today,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Instead, he insisted, “I simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes, listen intensely, and take it ALL in!!!”

During an appearance on CNN on Wednesday, The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman said, “Sometimes he is sleeping. I know there’s this huge sleeping debate… That is a 100 percent true. I’ve seen it.”

She added, “People around him have confirmed to me that he has been sleeping at times that we have said he is.”

However, Haberman said, “Sometimes he is closing his eyes, and I’ve talked to people around him about this too, because that is how he tries to just basically stay calm and deal with it. And whether that then leads to sleep or whatever, who knows? But he is sitting there with his eyes closed for long periods of time. It’s not always sleeping.”

“I think it is a compartmentalization method. And he’s pretty good at compartmentalizing,” she suggested.
