President Donald Trump began his Friday with a set of tweets declaring that he has “done more for women than just about any president in history” and endorsing a Democratic bill that would erect a monument honoring the suffragettes in Washington, D.C.

The president wrote, “I have done more for WOMEN than just about any President in HISTORY! As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of women’s voting rights, we should build a BEAUTIFUL STATUE in Washington D.C. to honor the many brave women who made this possible for our GREAT COUNTRY.”

He continued, “Congress should send me H.R.473 ASAP and make this happen! It will INSPIRE all women to continue being bold and brave in achieving their DREAMS!”

The bill that he endorsed, H.R. 473, was introduced by freshman Congressman Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) only a few days after he was sworn into Congress.

The bill passed the Democratic-controlled House in February of 2019.

The summary of the bill reads, “The Every Word We Utter Monument may establish a commemorative work on Federal land in the District of Columbia and its environs to commemorate the women’s suffrage movement and the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women the right to vote.”

The Every Word We Utter movement is a group that aimed at erecting a monument honoring the suffragettes in Washington DC.

Their mission statement reads, “The mission of Every Word We Utter Monument is to create a tribute to acknowledge the women’s suffrage movement, and ensure its placement in Washington D.C. This monument will insure ongoing women’s suffrage education and inspire future generations.

As Trump noted in his tweets, the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, will celebrate its 100th anniversary this summer — on August 18.

Trump has tweeted about the “suburban housewife.” On August 12, he announced that “The “suburban housewife” will be voting for me.” However, a recent NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll showed that 66% of suburban women disapprove of the job that Trump is doing as president.
