Former President Donald Trump is claiming he has “a substantial lead” on the presidential election, but added “bad things could happen.”

In the waning hours of the 2024 election cycle, Trump spoke with ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl Sunday morning by phone.

Trump told Karl he expects to win the race for the White House and also commented on the off-chance he loses.

“Yeah, I guess, you know,” Trump said. “I guess you could lose, can lose. I mean, that happens, right?”

“But I think I have a pretty substantial lead, but, you could say, yeah, yeah, you could lose,” Trump said. “Bad things could happen. You know, things happen, but it’s going to be interesting.”

He added he will address the nation after the election by stating, “I’ll be out there at the right time.”

Trump talked with Karl after a day on the campaign trail that did not end until shortly before midnight on Saturday.

“I don’t think anyone’s ever done my schedule before,” he said, “Big thing is, can the voice hold out?”

“Nobody’s ever done what I’ve done, and they’re big rallies and tremendous enthusiasm,” Trump added.

Trump also took Karl to task about a report on “Good Morning America” that stated Trump’s message is not as focused as his campaign advisers think it should be.

“I just watched,” Trump said. “You said my message was all over the place. It’s not.”

However, as Karl pointed out, Trump jumps from various topics in what he refers to as “the weave.”

“Look, the weave got me elected president,” Trump said. “Yeah, that’s one of those things, but, but the weave is a good thing. Nobody else can do it. Very few people can.”
