President-elect Donald Trump has punched his ticket back to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but not everyone is welcome to catch a ride.
Trump announced via a post on social media Saturday that both Nikki Haley, who served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State and CIA director, will not be part of his new administration when he takes office Jan. 20, per a Fox News report.
“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump posted on Truth Social and, by extension, X, formerly Twitter.
Trump then expressed appreciation for their service.
“I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country,” he wrote. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Both Haley and Pompeo were thought to be high contenders for a spot on Trump’s new Cabinet.
Haley responded to the news with a post of her own on X.
“I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations,” she wrote. “I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years.”
Haley ran against Trump in the Republican primary earlier this year.
Trump’s one-time opponent announced her support for the then-Republican presidential nominee in an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journa.
“I don’t agree with Mr. Trump 100% of the time,” she wrote. “But I do agree with him most of the time, and I disagree with Ms. Harris nearly all the time. That makes this an easy call.”
Pompeo joined others in supporting Trump in an open letter with more than 400 signatories, including Gold Star families and national security officials.
“From a world at peace under President Trump, we are closer to a third world war than ever before under the Biden-Harris Administration,” per the letter, written in October. “With multiple escalating wars around the world, an open border that allows terrorists to flood into the American homeland, and malign actors like China operating unabated, U.S. national security has been profoundly damaged by the failed policies of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.”
