President Trump mocked New York City mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani, joking that he’s “much better looking” than the 34-year-old socialist candidate.
According to the New York Post, the remark came during a 60 Minutes interview Sunday night, when CBS correspondent Norah O’Donnell asked Trump about comparisons between himself and Mamdani.
“Some people have compared him to a left-wing version of you — charismatic, breaking the old rules. What do you think about that?” O’Donnell asked.
“Well, I think I’m a much better-looking person than him, right?” Trump replied.
Trump also criticized Mamdani politically, labeling him a “Communist” and claiming he would be “far worse than a socialist.”
“I think he’s probably gonna make de Blasio look great. I think he will make de Blasio look like one of our great mayors,” Trump said, referring to former Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“I got to see de Blasio, how bad a mayor he was, and this man will do a worse job than de Blasio by far.”
The former president also suggested that federal funding for New York would be wasted under a Mamdani administration:
“It’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York because if you have a Communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there.”
