President Donald Trump is suggesting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) legislation to set up a commission to evaluate whether the president can fulfill his duties as president is not really about him.
During his interview with conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, Trump accused Pelosi of backing the bill to replace Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
“Let’s assume the Democrats are going to vote for, you know, sleepy Joe, which is ridiculous because Joe shouldn’t be a candidate. Joe’s in no condition to be a candidate,” Trump said.
He added, “The 25th Amendment that crazy Nancy is playing around with, she’s gone crazy, she’s a nut job. This 25th Amendment, I think they put it in so they can get Kamala in, replace Joe.”

The 25th Amendment says, “In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.”
Pelosi appeared with Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Friday for a press conference to endorse Raskin’s bill to set up a “Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office Act,” as IJR previously reported.
The commission would determine whether the president is capable to perform his duties.
A reporter pressed Pelosi on whether she had been “toying with the idea of impeachment.”
She replied, “I was not toying with the idea of impeachment. Let’s not have a predicate that did not exist.”
Pelosi made it clear the legislation was not about the president.
“This is not about President Trump. He will face the judgment of the voters but he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents,” Pelosi said.
The introduction of the bill comes just one week after Trump was taken to Walter Reed Military Medical Center to be treated for COVID-19, as IJR previously reported.
Just six days after testing positive, Trump returned to the Oval Office.
The president is aiming to campaign in Florida on Saturday and in Pennsylvania on Sunday.
