When former President Donald Trump quipped the President Joe Biden should take a cognitive test, he probably didn’t expect to make a case for himself to take the test in his next sentence.
But that is what Trump did at an event in Detroit Saturday.
After suggesting Biden “should have to take a cognitive test,” he confused the name of the White House physician who gave him the test — calling him “Ronny Johnson” instead of “Ronny Jackson,” the Associated Pressreported.
Trump, who was speaking at a convention of Turning Point Action in Detroit, questioned Biden’s mental acuity, which is something the presumptive GOP presidential nominee does.
“He doesn’t even know what the word ‘inflation’ means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did,” Trump said.
He continued his speech, saying, “Doc Ronny Johnson. Does everyone know Ronny Johnson, congressman from Texas? He was the White House doctor, and he said I was the healthiest president, he feels, in history, so I liked him very much indeed immediately.”
Jackson, who was elected to Congress in 2021, is a staunch Trump supporter.
Trump’s criticism of the 81-year-old Biden’s age has been a keep part of his campaign message.
Trump, himself, turned 78 Friday.
Once his mistaken identy was made, critics pounced on Trump’s days pas, including a post from Biden’s campaign moments later.
Trump, at his own request, took a cognitive test in 2018. The exam was to detect early signs of memory loss or other mild cognitive impairment.
On Saturday, Trump also seized on the opportunity to poke fun at Biden for what appeared to be bizarre behavior during the Group of Seven summit in Italy.
In a cropped clip, Biden is seen walking away from the group of dignitaries. He is also shown giving a thumbs-up, but it is not clear to whom he was doing that toward.
The uncropped clip reveals Biden was facing a skydiver who had just landed as part a team of skydivers with flags of various nations.
Trump said Biden turned “to look at trees.”
However, the Biden campaign issued a statement which accused Trump’s campaign of “tampering with the video to make up lies.”
