President Donald Trump is set to attend the New York Yankees game against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, Sept. 11, marking the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and signaling his first MLB appearance during his second term.

Trump announced earlier this month that he will attend the New York Yankees game against the Detroit Tigers on the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, according to Fox News.

The president has attended numerous sporting events over the years but has not attended a baseball game during his second term.

Trump’s last MLB appearance came during the 2019 World Series, when he attended Game 5 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros while still serving his first term. He was also spotted at the 2021 World Series between the Astros and Braves, a year after losing the 2020 election to former President Joe Biden.

In 2020, Trump had been slated to throw out the first pitch at a Yankees game but canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Security will be significantly increased for Thursday’s game, not only because of Trump’s appearance and the solemn anniversary, but also in light of the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday in Utah. The Yankees honored Kirk with a moment of silence just hours after his death was confirmed.

The Yankees have urged fans to arrive early and anticipate delays due to enhanced security protocols. They urged fans for Thursday’s game to “budget extra time for entry due to enhanced security measures at all Yankee Stadium entrances.”

Gates usually open an hour and a half before first pitch, but on Thursday, gates will open at 4 p.m. ET for the 7:05 p.m. game.

In addition, fans are encouraged to take public transportation because of street closures and strict limitations on what can be brought inside the stadium.

Before attending the game, Trump will deliver remarks at the Pentagon as part of a 9/11 memorial ceremony. Vice President JD Vance spent the early part of the day in Lower Manhattan, joining others at Ground Zero.

The Yankees will hold pregame ceremonies to honor the victims and heroes of the September 11 attacks, though it’s unclear whether Trump will participate.

There will be pregame ceremonies to honor the victims and heroes of the attacks. It is not yet known how, or if, Trump will participate.

As the game unfolds, the Yankees continue their push for an AL East title, despite dropping the first two games of the series, while the Tigers are surging ahead in the AL Central.

The Yankees have lost each of the first two games in this series against Detroit as they fight for an AL East title, while the Tigers are running away with the AL Central.
